Black Bear Lake’s warm and nurturing environment provides children with valuable life skills, self-esteem, social interaction and new adventures! At Black Bear Lake, our entire staff, including teachers, coaches and college students, all play a role in positively impacting your child’s camp day and ensuring it will be a summer they will never forget!

What makes our summer camp unique? Our values of friendship, adventure and spirt help our campers find their best selves. Choice is the key to ensuring a fantastic summer at Black Bear Lake! Campers design their own unique schedule each week from a wide variety of electives that includes everything from professionally coached sports to creative expression through crafts, dance, and performing arts. We offer it all, in a unique, flexible program that instills a spirit of adventure and promotes teamwork, friendship, and a sense of community. We believe these are the true treasures of the summer camp experience.

Our choice-based program, combined with deep traditions and amazing special events keep our campers engaged and excited. As campers progress through our divisions, they gain more responsibility for designing and creating their own schedule. Campers only participate in the activities THEY WANT TO DO! They want to participate in their selected activities because THEY CHOOSE THEM! Black Bear Lake’s program uniquely focuses on choice!

Each week Black Bear Lake campers choose the activities they want to explore in-depth, participating alongside campers with similar interests. Our Choice Elective Program allows your child the choice of participating in activities that they like and choose themselves! Our innovative program consists of over 50 diverse and exciting activities, from soccer and tennis to arts and crafts and cooking. Only Black Bear Lake campers choose their own program, not just a single elective, designed themselves to discover new interests, learn new skills, improve their talents, and have fun doing it! In a traditional camp setting, campers often participate in activities with just the kids in their group. By choosing activities based on their interests, campers quickly meet many other campers with whom they have something in common. When campers are in activities they are highly interested in, they make more friends and the activity is more fun and engaging for all. Staff are equally happy with the Black Bear Lake choice program. They know each camper in their activity chose to be there! Therefore, with motivated and engaged campers they can achieve their teaching goals much more easily and quickly!
Tuition includes:
- Hub or Parent Drive to and from camp (Additional charge for Door To Door Transportation and/or Before and/or After Care)
- Hot & Cold lunch prepared daily in camp- served in our air-conditioned dining hall
- Camp T- Shirt & Backpack
- All Programs & Activities (all equipment and supplies for every activity)
- Daily snacks - bagels are available in the morning, fresh fruit is available all day, ice pops or ice cream is offered before dismissal, and campers love getting Slushies on Friday!
- 7th/8th Graders- 2 trips
- 9th/10th Graders (Staff Training Enrichment Program) or STEP- weekly day trips PLUS 1 overnight.
- All trips are included in tuition

The safety of our campers and your children is our absolute first priority; unfortunately, with today’s tense world situations, we find it necessary to take extraordinary measures to protect our children. While the conversation about summer camp oftentimes focuses more on specific daily offerings, we are proud to highlight the security that we have in place to protect your children and our staff:
- All visitors on grounds, no matter their reasoning, are required to wear a neon visitor’s pass.
- While our staff shirts make great camp-wear, they’re also a piece of our security plan; between our shirts and visitor passes, our staff know instantly if someone is not supposed to be on grounds or has avoided security.
- Our staff are trained intensively on emergency procedures including lock-down drills and various crisis situations
- Criminal background checks are done on all Camp counselors and staff including kitchen, maintenance and all support staff; We require at least three references for any staff member and during the summer, all staff are constantly evaluated by our Head Staff team.
- We are constantly in touch with the NJSP for both proactive emergency planning and periodic security check-ups.
- We are fully accredited by the American Camp Association which has stringent standards for health and safety including emergency procedures.
- At no time, ever, is a camper not under adult supervision.

While these pieces all add to our overall security plan, the biggest asset is our staff. Between the incredible counselors who work with your kids and the over 200 years of cumulative experience of our Head Staff team, your children truly are in the best hands possible.
